The Institute of Internal Auditors (IIA) is launching a new, comprehensive framework to support internal auditors pursuing professional development, as well as a new global survey to assess internal audit practitioners’ competency levels, the organization announced in a press release. The IIA’s Internal Audit Competency Framework provides career advancement direction and support for internal auditors at a variety of stages in their expertise.
“Expectations by stakeholders are growing exponentially, presenting challenges but also opportunities for internal auditors to evolve and enhance their value to organizational success,” said IIA President and CEO Richard Chambers. “A Competency Framework, uniquely developed by The IIA and geared toward advancing the profession and the individual, with tools that assess professional strengths and development needs, not only strengthens our footing in the International Professional Practices Framework (IPPF) and the Standards, but positions internal auditors for what lies ahead.”
The Framework is divided into four distinct disciplines: professionalism, performance, environment, and leadership and communications. Internal auditors can use the framework’s assessment to determine their strengths in various knowledge areas, then identify the Standards, training, educational resources, and content that will help them advance.
The Internal Audit Foundation’s global survey, which will begin October 5, will evaluate the current competency levels of internal audit practitioners, examine how these competencies apply to expectations in the workplace, assess the availability of resources and training, and identify where gaps exist that limit internal auditors’ advancement opportunities.
