U.K. Watchdog Gets “Adequate” Rating on Compliance

The Information Commissioner’s Office, the U.K.’s data watchdog, got a rating of “adequate” from an internal audit as the agency faces uncertainty regarding enforcement because of Brexit and COVID-19.

The Coronavirus Crisis has disrupted the body’s work and the organization had announced that it will take a more relaxed approach to enforcement during the crisis. The “adequate” rating the body received meant that “there is generally a sound control framework in place, but there are significant issues of compliance or efficiency or some specific gaps in the control framework which need to be addressed. Adequate assurance indicates that despite this, there is no indication that risks are crystallizing at present,” said the audit report.
